The Guns of Navarone

This is just such a fun book to read. It starts with the team getting assembled on this top secret mission, and then getting deployed to perform the impossible task. The mission, destroy the naval radar guns perched on the mighty German cliff fortress. The team: Cpt Keith Mallory, the New Zealand mountaineer; Crprl Dusty, the explosives expert; Andrea, a giant greek; Casey Brown, the engineer; and Lt Andy Stevens, a young climber.

Its an impossible mission, but its an amazing story giving us a peek at the impossible things brave soldiers did during the second great war. The men were all ordinary men who were pushed to the absolute limit to carry out their mission out of duty, loyalty and honor.

I’m a sucker for the ‘put a team together’ and go on a ‘quest’ or ‘mission’ plot. It feels like Ocean’s Eleven, but WW2.

If you’re looking for something to keep you on the edge of the seat while you read, with notes of mission impossible and the A Team, then The Guns of Navaronne will scratch that itch.
